A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has been plying his trade in an unfamiliar role in training over the last couple of days.
This comes with a view to a potential shake-up in Real’s backline for the club’s upcoming meeting with Stuttgart.
Los Blancos are of course primed to kick their European campaign into gear on Tuesday night, when they play host to Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart.
In the buildup to the clash, one source of concern in the Spanish champions’ squad has come at the heart of defence.
Though he has not suffered an injury, Éder Militão finished Real Madrid’s La Liga victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday with some discomfort in his knee.
With the Brazilian not long back from an ACL tear, Carlo Ancelotti is giving consideration to affording Militão a rest against Stuttgart.
And, should as much prove to be the case, expected to replace the former Porto standout at centre-half will be Dani Carvajal.
As per a report from Marca:
‘The Italian coach has tried out the team’s vice captain alongside Rüdiger in the last training session before the match, with Lucas Vázquez at right back.’
Carvajal was forced into a central role on a couple of occasions last season, and performed altogether admirably.
It now remains to be seen whether a similar scenario is on the cards on Tuesday night…
