Transfer season is reaching fever pitch right now, with deals for numerous players reaching critical stages.

There’s a reason things are busier than normal for early June this year – the Club World Cup. Chelsea are competing in the new tournament, with a vast amount of money on the line, and need to have their signings completed by 7pm on Tuesday in order to register them to play in the USA.

That’s leading to quite the rush – Liam Delap is already on board, and both Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens are being strongly linked with completing moves before then.

Enzo Maresca speaks about Chelsea’s injury issues.

As well as creating a transfer frenzy, it’s also going to be great to see some competitive action in the summer, and Enzo Maresca has been speaking to broadcasters DAZN about his feelings on the tournament:

“I’m happy [to be there] especially because it’s a tournament that brings together the top 32 teams in the world. So, it’s very exciting to take part in such a huge competition,” the Chelsea coach said.

“You also have the opportunity to face other top coaches and some world-class teams. We were there – in North America – last summer, and it was great. There were so many fans there, and it will be another opportunity for them to come and watch us and for us to meet them. So, there’s no doubt it will be a great occasion.”

Maresca excited for USA fans

“The fans in America were spectacular from the very beginning. As far as culture is concerned, Brazilian fans usually create a great atmosphere, which is part of their culture. They are usually happy and incredibly entertaining.

“So with their football culture coming together with ours, hopefully we’ll be able to ensure that the people who come to watch the game at the stadium have a great time.”

It’s nice to hear the coach being positive rather than upset about yet more fixtures in the calendar as we’re sure some of his peers are.
