We’ve just been writing about the Chelsea move for Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, and how close it looks to collapse.
But Christian Falk has just given some exclusive information in his column for CaughtOffside which adds further detail to the whole thing.
The German insider says that Chelsea have had their first offer rejected, and that Gittens has told BVB that he wants to come to Stamford Bridge. As we mentioned in our other piece, he also notes the “clear time pressure” of wanting to get the deal done before the 10th June mini transfer deadline.

Chelsea “won’t be deterred by this opening setback” after seeing a bid rejected, and instead are already preparing their next offer. The difference between €42m and €70m is pretty vast, and we feared that would be game over.
But Falk’s words are pretty positive, and the idea of a second bid coming in soon makes it feel like things could happen soon. There should be a serious ramping up of efforts to sign Gittens before Tuesday – a second and third bid could go in in the next 48 hours.
If that doesn’t work out, we may be forced onto a new target.
Despite this blockage in completing the transfer, the good news is that personal terms have been agreed, with Gittens set to double his €3.5m annual salary to €7m on a deal until 2032. That would certainly align with out current strategies, and would be one of the major benefits of signing yet another young player.
That should mean that if we can agreed a transfer fee, the rest of the deal can be done speedily.
