However, with his contract expiring in the summer, there are doubts about Small’s future, as recent reports have claimed that Millwall and Preston are tracking the 20-year-old.

Yet, speaking to London News Online, Jones didn’t give much away when he was quizzed on Small leaving, as he revealed that no clubs have made an approach as it stands.

No contact from anyone. Part of my remit is to work with young players and develop young players to make them assets for the football club. There you go.”

Thierry Small has a big decision to make this summer

Ultimately, Small is in a position where he can decide his next move, and you would expect he will have several offers on the table.

Even though Charlton will be due compensation due to his age, the reality is that Small will be a popular option for clubs, and he could be seen as a bargain.

Clearly, how the remainder of the season plays out is going to have a big impact on Small, and Charlton, who would be in a position to offer a better contract to the youngster if they win promotion.

So, no side is going to make a decision right now, and the only focus for Small will be on helping the Londoners to win promotion, and he will then assess his options.

Charlton Athletic have been a good fit for Thierry Small

Yet, even if Charlton remain in League One, Small will recognise that Charlton have been a good fit for him, so there’s no guarantee that he will depart.

Small was very highly-rated as a youngster, with Southampton offering Everton £1.5m for the teenager, although that was rejected and the fee was decided by a tribunal.
