Liverpool will have to break the bank if they truly wish to sign highly-rated Benfica talent Joao Neves this summer.
On top of that, they’ll be facing ‘concrete interest’ from European outfit PSG (potentially along with Arsenal and Manchester United).
Fabrizio Romano now reports on X (formerly Twitter) that Benfica ‘insist’ on any interested party meeting the 19-year-old footballer’s £101.5m release clause.
This comes amid reports that the Reds were readying a bid for the Primeira Liga talent.
The teenager’s current terms are set to expire in the summer of 2028, so it’s entirely understandable why Benfica are prepared to stick to their guns.

Speaking ahead of the European Championship in Germany, fellow Portugal international Diogo Jota spoke quite highly of Neves.
“Joao Neves has the quality and the mindset to go really far,” the Liverpool striker told GOAL.
Notably, we are potentially in need of a new holding midfielder to more competently replace Fabinho. That’s not disrespect to Wataru Endo who has filled in superbly when asked following his move from Stuttgart in 2023.
A fee upwards of £100m, of course, may prove too steep for Richard Hughes and Co.
