Pep Guardiola has stated that he and Manchester City’s relevant officials will talk in the coming weeks about the club’s approach towards the January transfer window.

Much has been made in recent weeks of the Premier League champions’ need for recruitment in the winter window, particularly amid ongoing fitness and injury concerns, particularly concerning Rodri.

The Spain international and Ballon d’Or winner was ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining a double knee injury during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September, and has left Pep Guardiola with major issues in the defensive midfield position.

Matters were made even worse when Mateo Kovacic sustained a problem that ruled him out for a month during the November international break, and some believe that City officials have already discussed the likes of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a potential solution.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Manchester City’s next Premier League match-up against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola offered some insight into the approach that will be taken towards the January transfer window.

“We will talk internally about what is the best in January,” Pep Guardiola told reporters.

He continued, “It depends on the position and the situation that we are in at that moment.”

The understanding in other quarters is that some within Manchester City believe they may have made a mistake in opting not invest too heavily in new faces and stars during the last summer transfer window.

2025 was viewed as the more suitable year to put more into squad rebuilding, having now also ascertained Pep Guardiola’s intentions following his two-year contractual extension, but that decision may leave them with a huge uphill battle on the pitch this season.
