Manchester City have had a host of players out of form for a variety of reasons so far this season. Injuries and fatigue have been the main factors behind City’s slump as well as their hungry and determined opponents. That has resulted in a host of City’s players not being at their usual high standards. One of those has been Phil Foden. The England international has been well below his best so far this season. Yesterday saw Foden post on social media reminding everyone of his quality. Now it’s time for Phil Foden to do his talking on the pitch.

There has been an edge of defiance on display this week with Manchester City’s player and manager. It has stood out in their words and was especially prevalent with Pep Guardiola’s actions at Anfield. Phil Foden yesterday posted an image of him on his official Instagram page with all the trophies he has won at Manchester City. He also shared an image of him with the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award.

Based on Foden’s posts it does appear that he is determined to return to form. One thing that can’t be knocked in Foden’s recent performances is his effort and work rate. But his quality has been lacking in recent games. Phil Foden isn’t alone on that front amongst the Manchester City squad, but given Foden’s standing in the world champions squad, it does stand out.

But now it’s time for Foden’s performances to match the determination he showed on Instagram. When he is at his best so are Manchester City. He is that important to Pep Guardiola’s side. Perhaps Foden’s posts could also serve as a reminder to himself of just how good he is. If can return to his best there is no doubt that City will likely return to theirs.

That’s the challenge in front of Phil Foden. His performances like many of his teammates needs to match the energy he is showing with his statements. The sooner they do the better Manchester City will be.
