Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo has shown the ultimate respect to his parent club at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Portugal international is making his first return to Manchester since leaving Pep Guardiola’s side in the January transfer window on an initial six-month loan deal in search of increased game time.
Bayern Munich have of course the option to sign the Manchester City full-back on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, however there are concerns that the valuation placed on the player by Etihad officials is above what the German club are willing to pay.
Nevertheless, Cancelo will likely have work to do in order to persuade Bayern Munich officials to sanction a big-money move for the player, and even more so under the new coaching style of the recently-appointed Thomas Tuchel.
In the meantime, Joao Cancelo has to compete against his former club Manchester City across two-legs in the Champions League quarter-finals and ahead of kick-off in the first-leg in England, the 28 year-old paid the ultimate respect to his parent side.
Champions League media crew captured the moment the former Juventus man arrived at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening ahead of kick-off, with Joao Cancelo deliberately avoiding the Manchester City crest in the club’s tunnel.

City fans have reacted in their numbers to Cancelo’s show of respect to his parent club, with one fan responding, “We love you”, while another supporter said, “Forgiven for this, bring him back!”
The prize for the side that comes out on top across the two-legs is a semi-final clash against either Real Madrid or Chelsea, as those two European heavyweights go head-to-head in their own last-eight contest across the next two weeks.
Joao Cancelo will however have to start the contest from the substitutes bench, while fellow former Manchester City attacker Leroy Sane starts and has the opportunity to inflict pain on supporters who continue to hold a special feeling for the Germany international.
