According to Corriere dello Sport, the Udinese shot-stopper stands accused of deliberately picking up a yellow card in the 64th minute during a Serie A clash between Udinese and Lazio. The match took place on March 11, 2024.

During the encounter, Maduka Okoye was cautioned for time-wasting while his team was leading 2-1. "Italian sporting authorities have reported a wave of suspicious betting activity surrounding Okoye, who received a yellow card. With odds at 8/1, this incident is said to have generated over 120,000 euros in winning bets," reports Football Italia.

Currently, Maduka Okoye has been placed under investigation alongside three friends, including the owner of a pizzeria in Udine. The case is now before the disciplinary commission. Italian media are reporting a possible "charge of sporting fraud rather than just irregular betting."
