Under-pressure manager Ange Postecoglou must turn Tottenham Hotspur’s fortunes around and could dive back into the transfer market to bolster his squad.

Chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly considering backing Spurs’ bid to return into contention for a coveted European finish with a spending spree.

While the BBC contemplates whether Postecoglou is running out of time, the 59-year-old manager wants to strengthen his depleted squad in January. Here are a couple of potential targets.

Davide Frattesi

Sources in Italy claim the out-of-sorts Premier League heavyweights are willing to fork out a significant fee to lure Davide Frattesi away from Inter Milan.

Inter paid Sassuolo around €35 million to sign the 25-year-old permanently last summer.

However, it may take well north of that figure to convince the defending Serie A champions to offload their box-to-box midfielder despite his relatively sparse playing time at Giuseppe Meazza.

Frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities, Frattesi could force a move. However, unless he presses the issue, Spurs are unlikely to get this deal over the line in January.

Rodrigo Bentancur’s suspension has left Postecoglou short of reliable midfield options, intensifying the pressure on Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

Matheus Cunha

Wolverhampton Wanderers face an imminent threat of relinquishing their seven-year tenure in the Premier League, increasing the possibility of a mass exodus next summer.

Relegation to the Championship would likely result in numerous first-team stars leaving, but Spurs cannot wait that long to materialise their interest in Matheus Cunha.

Cunha has developed into one of the most highly-rated forwards in England’s top flight, drawing interest from several clubs, including Tottenham.

With Gary O’Neil’s side firmly embroiled in an intense battle for survival, the former Atletico Madrid star could fancy a move to North London, where he’d fight for European football.

Richarlison is regularly in the treatment room, while Timo Werner should return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season after failing to impress.

Cunha would be a fantastic acquisition for Spurs.
