Three new fan zones to follow CHAN in Kenya
Good news for football enthusiasts in Kenya. The Kenyan government has decided to expand the network of fan zones in Nairobi ahead of the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals.
Three new sites—Ruiru, Camp Toyoyo (Dagoretti), and Babadogo—are being added to the ten already in place, bringing the total to thirteen. The announcement was made by Sports Minister Salim Mvurya, who explained that this move aims to give more Kenyans the chance to support the Harambee Stars in optimal conditions. Large screens will be installed at these venues and security will be reinforced by an increased police presence.
This decision comes in the wake of incidents during the Kenya–Morocco match, which was marked by crowd trouble, pitch invasions, and a $50,000 fine imposed on the Kenyan Football Federation by CAF. The Harambee Stars will face Madagascar this Friday in the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
