It was an emotional day at Stamford Bridge today, with Thiago Silva saying goodbye after 4 years at the club. The Brazilian defender was given a guard of honour and at the end of the game the queue of players waiting to embrace him felt like it was going to stretch down the Fulham Road.

He did a speech on the pitch at full time with thanks to all manner of people, from his fellow players to the fans. On the verge of tears throughout, the crowd hung on his every word.

But he picked out two people who had been instrumental in bringing him to Chelsea for special praise in the speech: Frank Lampard and Marina Granovskaia. We’re sure that means a lot to both of them.

“My dream is to see my kids play for you. I’ll miss you guys a lot. I love you,” was how he concluded.

By the way, what a moment to do your first proper speech in English! He’s clearly been practicing. What an utter god.
