“That’s how it works” – Pundit makes bold claim about future of Chelsea ace | OneFootball

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made a bold prediction and believes the Blues will sell Cole Palmer if he goes on to become a £100m player.

Palmer arrived on deadline day last summer from boyhood club Manchester City in a deal worth up to £45m and took the Premier League by storm in his debut campaign.

The 22-year-old was named Premier League Young Player of the Year after his 22 goals and 11 assists in a superb debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Merson makes bold Palmer claim

The England international has seemingly picked up where he left off last season and despite failing to make an impact against Bournemouth on Saturday evening he still has four assists and a goal from the first four Premier League games of the season.

Palmer recently signed a two year contract extension as a reward for his fine form, which ties him down at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

Chelsea’s transfer policy is well documented and they aren’t afraid to sell players on when they think their transfer value has increased sufficiently.

Jackson and Palmer have both recently signed contract extensions keeping them at the club until 2033.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has made a bold claim and believes if Palmer becomes a £100m player Chelsea will sell him, whilst also stating the same will happen to Nicolas Jackson if he continues his good form.

“If Nicolas Jackson scores 25 goals next season, they will sell him,” he told Sky Sports as cited on X.com.

“That’s their whole idea of signing these players. If Cole Palmer keeps doing what he’s doing and becomes a £100million player, they will sell him. That’s how it works.”

Whilst Merson isn’t wrong in terms of Chelsea selling players on for a profit, it would be a huge surprise if the club were to entertain offers for two of their top stars, whilst any decision would likely be met with outrage amongst the fans.

You would like to think that Chelsea would know better than to sell their top assets and whilst it would be unlikely, unfortunately it can’t be something that can be fully ruled out.
