Mauro Tassotti was delighted to see Matteo Gabbia score the winner against Inter, admitting it means a bit more to boyhood AC Milan fans.
The moment is now etched in the memory of Milan fans: Reijnders delivered an inch-perfect set-piece which Gabbia headed home past the flailing Sommer, sending the Rossoneri into pandemonium with a late derby winner.
Tassotti spoke alongside Gabbia on stage at the inauguration of the open-air photographic exhibition ‘125 years of Milan’ last night. He commented on Gabbia’s goal and the importance of the youth sector.
“Am I envious? No, I’m happy, because we hadn’t won the derby for a long time. Doing it like that and at the last minute reminded me of a derby I played, the one with Hateley’s goal,” he said.
“I’m happy because a boy from the youth sector did it, it’s important that these boys get to the first team. A boy who is born in Milan, goes through the youth system and gets to the first team, it’s nice. It’s a victory for the club, we need more than one.”
