However, preparations are going far from smoothly, with uncertainty surrounding the club in all different directions.

Question marks hover over the likes of owner Dejphon Chansiri and manager Danny Rohl, as well as the entirety of the first team squad.

Supporters will be hoping that some of their questions will be answered before the new Championship campaign gets going next month, but time is moving quickly.

Here we look at all the latest news surrounding Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday player exodus

According to The Star, an exodus of Sheffield Wednesday first team players is possible this month.

The beginning of July has come without players being paid on time, marking the third time this has happened in four months.

Under FIFA’s current regulations, this now entitles players to terminate their contracts with two weeks of notice.

It is understood that several players are now weighing up their futures, and that some may have even already handed in that notice, which could leave the club with a very limited squad to start the new campaign.

Academy players paid

It has also been reported by The Star that the wages for the club’s academy players has started to filter through at the start of this week.

It’s believed that the bulk of the academy have received their salaries for the month of June, which will provide some respite to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.

The academy may be relied upon quite heavily next season given the Owls will be limited in who they can bring into the first team.

So this is a positive development for the Yorkshire outfit amid a lot of difficulties behind the scenes this summer.

Henrik Pedersen under consideration

Rohl’s future at Hillsborough remains unresolved, with the club in talks over an exit for the German coach.

However, it’s been reported by The Star that his assistant Henrik Pedersen could yet remain with the Championship side.

It’s believed that he is under consideration to take charge of the first team squad for next season and could be appointed as Rohl’s permanent successor.

Another name mentioned as the possible next Sheffield Wednesday head coach is Andy Holdsworth, who is also currently part of the first team coaching staff.

Barry Bannan’s future

Barry Bannan’s future is also up in the air at the moment, with the talismanic figure out of contract.

The 35-year-old was reportedly offered a new deal as recently as May, but has yet to put pen to paper on an extension that will keep him at Hillsborough for next season.

However, he could yet make the switch away from the Owls, with journalist Fraser Fletcher reporting interest from multiple Championship rivals.

He has claimed that Stoke City, West Brom and Wrexham are all monitoring the situation surrounding the veteran, and could potentially attempt to sign the free agent.

Bannan has been with Sheffield Wednesday since 2015, so his departure would be felt both within the club and among supporters.
