First Half

Sheffield United started the game off with intent, pressing from the front and not allowing the home side to breathe. And with winning the ball back high up the pitch, this brought plenty of chances.

Firstly, Marsh went close from a free-kick, with the York goalkeeper getting down to tip the ball past the bottom right-hand corner. From the resulting corner, Seriki made a dart to the near post and he saw his headed effort crash against the foot of the post.

But moments later, United found the opener with Anel Ahmedhodzic heading in the first goal of the night.

The Blades made it 2-0 just a few minutes later when Marsh poked the ball beyond the defensive line, and with Andre Brooks timing his run perfectly, he placed his right-footed shot into the far corner of the net.

At 2-0 down, the Blades weren’t resting on their laurels. However, York stopper, Male, produced a couple of minutes of outstanding goalkeeping. Firstly, Seriki was denied, but then Ahmedhodzic looked to scoop a header into the net before Male clawed the ball off the line. As York cleared, the ball fell to the edge of the box and O’Hare was denied by Male with the ball looking laser-guided to the top left corner.

United eventually got their third of the half though. Tom Cannon, playing on the left-wing, was played in behind on the left and he composed himself before playing a perfect pass across to Tyrese Campbell, who capped off a wonderful first half under Selles.

Second Half

With the entire team changed at half-time, the Blades got the scoring off a few minutes into the second period. Ryan Oné, playing off the left, drove down the outside of the defender and smashed a left-footed effort beyond the goalkeeper at his near post.

Gustavo Hamer was the next man to be denied excellently by the York goalkeeper as his well-struck free-kick was tipped onto the post.

Minutes later, York City got on the scoresheet with their own free-kick attempt. Alex Hunt, a former Sheffield Wednesday player, dispatched his 25-yard free-kick into the top left corner, leaving Adam Davies in awe.

And on 69 minutes, the home side made things interesting as Fallowfield steered in an effort from a corner, with Rhys Norrington-Davies and Kieffer Moore at the back post both looking on in disgust as the net rippled.

A potential comeback was short-lived though because Harrison Burrows delivered a superb cross on the left-wing which Kieffer Moore guided home with a little help from the inside of the post.

The Blades found a sixth and final goal of an entertaining night in York. Ryan Oné bagged a brace, who at one point appeared as though he may have had to come off having suffered a contact injury. Having run it off, he was in prime position on the edge of the box to finish off a great piece of pressing by Ukaki, and the towering Scotsman blasted a right-footed finish into the bottom of the goal.

Sheffield United will play their next pre-season fixture against Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
