The powers that be at La Liga outfit Sevilla have initiated a fresh push to tie defensive stalwart Sergio Ramos down to a new contract.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards the possibility of the parties extending their relationship as all of a sudden looking altogether more likely.

Recent weeks had seen it widely reported that Ramos’ Sevilla exit had already been decided upon, with the club’s financial constraints making a renewal to his expiring terms all but impossible.

The 38-year-old, in turn, initiated talks with clubs in MLS, over a potential summer switch to the United States.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word to have surfaced late on Wednesday is anything to go by, Ramos’ legendary La Liga stint may not have come to a close just yet…

As per the aforementioned MD, Sevilla president José María del Nido Carrasco and sports director Víctor Orta this week met with the defender’s brother and agent.

This came in a bid to make clear their renewed hope of thrashing out a contract agreement.

Though the Nervionenses cannot offer the kind of salary befitting a player of Ramos’ status, they have confirmed that all possible efforts will be made to increase his wage packet from the current campaign.

A couple of roadblocks remain to be worked through, but, crucially, it is concluded that ‘the intention of both parties is to find an agreement’.
