Sekou Koita joins Genclerbirligi in Turkey
Sekou Koita has officially signed with Gençlerbirliği this Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The Malian international striker leaves CSKA Moscow for a one-season loan in the Turkish top flight.
After Adama Traoré, the Turkish club has secured another experienced Malian player. Gençlerbirliği announced just a few hours ago the arrival of Sekou Koita from CSKA Moscow. The deal is a loan with an option to buy for the international forward.
Arriving in Europe in 2019 at FC Liefering from USC Kita in Mali, Sekou Koita truly made a name for himself at Red Bull Salzburg. He quickly stood out with his blistering pace, powerful shooting, and versatility across attacking positions, whether supporting a striker or operating as a winger. However, after a promising start (over 30 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga), the Malian saw his progress hampered by recurring injuries, preventing him from realizing his full potential over time.
In 2024, Sekou Koita packed his bags for CSKA Moscow, where he made 35 appearances, scored 5 goals, and provided 3 assists. His contract with the Moscow side runs until June 30, 2027. But in search of regular playing time, he embraces a fresh challenge in Turkey.
