Jill Roord says she is feeling fitter and stronger than ever before.

The Dutch playmaker was sidelined for much of last season after suffering ACL injury against Manchester United in January.

But after recovering ahead of schedule, she admits she’s never felt in better shape than she does now.

“Physically, I feel stronger and fitter than I have ever been,” said Roord.

“I need to build rhythm but so far, I am happy with where I am at.

“[I feel] very good, pretty normal. I’ve played 90 minutes now and I’m very happy with that – my knee feels good and there's been no reaction.

“The most important thing is that my body and knee felt good afterwards. I’m very happy with that.

“I spoke about it with the medical staff, and they will manage me every day and every training.

“If everything goes fine then grea.t - but if I need to take a step back then I will. I don't expect that and will stay calm.”

Roord says she is delighted to be playing  Champions League football again after missing out last season.

Our European campaign couldn’t have started any better with a 2-0 win over reigning champions Barcelona – and Roord is targeting three more points against St Polten tomorrow evening.

“Obviously starting with Barca, beating them and the way we did it gives us more confidence,” she said.

“It’s difficult when you have only a few days in between before Liverpool - difficult.

“It’s always tough to play such an important game a few days later but we did really well.

“Last year] was the only season I didn't play in the Champions League and I really missed it.

“It’s a different atmosphere and I am really looking forward to being involved in those games and hopefully we get through.

“I played the group stages before, and they are difficult games every time.

“We don’t know what to expect when you play away - you don’t know what the pitch will be like and so on.

“It’s important we play with the same intensity [we had against Barca] then we should be the better team, but if we don’t do that it will be tough.

“It’s 0-0 again and we have to show the same intensity.”
