Legendary Roma player Marco Delvecchio represented the club in Roma’s latest unveiling of the Special Derby kit for the upcoming Derby della Capitale with Lazio.

Delvecchio discussed with anticipation the importance of this derby as well as his impression from seeing Daniele De Rossi lead the Giallorossi as their head coach.

In an interview with the AS Roma Podcast, Delvecchio said, “I returned to Trigoria three weeks ago for the first time in 10-15 years. Everything changed here, the streets, I no longer knew where to turn in order to get to the training center. It all changed for the better.”

“I don’t follow football much now, but I always make sure to follow Roma. If I have to go out on Saturday or Sunday I go out to watch Roma play. Same thing on Thursday, hopefully next year it’ll be on Wednesday or Tuesday for the Champions League.”

“The derby? You already start experiencing the Rome derby a month before the derby. It is a derby felt 10 times more than the one in Milan.”

“Scoring in the derby is tricky. You also have to have a bit of luck and I had the luck and skill in always scoring in the derby. I felt like it was a great match, it was important and everyone cared about it. I was able to give my best.”

“The one I remember with most emotion is the first one I played (98-99). We won after losing several derbies in a row. The first match we had drawn from 3-3 to 3-1 for them and it was practically another lost derby. The first derby 90′-99′ was the crossroads that made us win many derbies afterwards.”

“De Rossi? Daniele is a boy born in Rome, from Rome and like Totti he experienced each derby as if it was the most important match of all time. Daniele has now matured and grown. He will know how to face the derby in the best way and will do very well.”

“The results speak for him. I didn’t expect him to get off to such a good start. It definitely wasn’t easy to return to this reality he had been so close to for so many years. He found balance with the players, club and fans. I congratulate him because he is doing a great job.”
