Robert Sanchez joined Chelsea just 10 days ago, but in that time he’s already had a rapid rise.
Mauricio Pochettino’s initial answers about the goalkeeper were that he was still second choice behind long standing incumbent Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was “a little bit ahead” of the new signing in the pecking order, as you’d expect.
But things have moved incredibly fast since then. Real Madrid lost their first choice goalkeeper, and moved swiftly to sign Kepa, who was left out of our squad for last weekend’s opener against Liverpool while the clubs negotiated.
That meant Sanchez was parachuted in to the first team less than a week after his first training session at Cobham. Despite a couple of dodgy moments, he performed well against Liverpool in the main.
That was Sanchez’s first big upgrade, and now we hear from Nizaar Kinsella that he’s got his second. Sanchez will now wear Kepa’s suddenly vacant number one shirt, cementing the former Brighton man as our first choice for this season.
