If a recent report from The Daily Record is believed to be true, Celtic are still in the hunt for Lennon Miller but have yet to table a bid for the Motherwell teenager. Old Firm rivals Rangers, several Premier League sides, and the clubs from Italy, Germany, Belgium and France are also keeping close tabs on the midfield sensation.

The 18-year-old Scotland international progressed through The Well’s academy ranks and eventually earned a senior status soon after his 16th birthday. So far, he has appeared 76 times for the North Lanarkshire outfit in all competitions, but Jens Berthel Askou, their newly appointed boss, is preparing for life without the emerging ‘number 8’.

While the Bhoys have often raided their Scottish opponents to secure top talents, Lennon is open to following the footsteps of fellow countrymen Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson, Che Adams and Josh Doig, who are enjoying their time in Italy. Udinese had a couple of offers rejected in January. But the Serie A side could come back for the teenage ace along with Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Strasbourg, Union Saint-Gilloise and a host of English teams.

Despite having just a year left in his Fir Park contract, Motherwell are demanding a club-record fee of over £5m for their prized asset. They should receive the desired sum, given the growing interest in Miller, but his father, Lee, hopes to see the future sorted out soon.

“His preferable choice would be abroad. He’s not just going to go to a club for the sake of it. It needs to have the right environment, it needs to have the right manager, the right club.”

Why Celtic Should Not Give Up Yet On The Teenage Sensation

Celtic, meanwhile, have plenty of options in the middle of the park. Skipper Callum McGregor is pulling the strings as a deep-lying playmaker, thus allowing Reo Hatate and Arne Engels to operate box-to-box and threaten in the advanced areas. Luke McCowan has contributed with his attacking traits, and Paulo Bernardo, the Portuguese youth international, has been deployed flexibly in various midfield roles.

Having said that, the Celts should step up the chase for Miller to challenge and cover McGregor, before succeeding the ‘captain fantastic’ in the long run. They struggled against Rangers during the Scot’s injury absence, and the Motherwell prospect, known for his awareness, anticipation, composure, and the ability to patrol the space, should flourish under Brendan Rodgers if he changes his mind and plies his trade to Parkhead.
