Chelsea will need to pay Leicester City a compensation fee of £7m-£8m to appoint Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager.

Maresca is on Chelsea’s shortlist of potential candidates to replace Mauricio Pochettino, after a mutual decision was made for the latter to leave Stamford Bridge.

An end-of-season review featuring Pochettino and the club’s hierarchy saw a decision made for the former to depart, after Chelsea ended his debut campaign sixth in the Premier League table.

Maresca has won admirers for his work at Leicester since leaving his role as assistant manager at Manchester City to take charge at the King Power Stadium last summer. After inheriting a Foxes team who had been relegated from the Premier League, he has led Leicester back into the top tier at the first attempt, winning the Championship title.

The Italian’s attractive brand of football has seen him placed on Chelsea’s shortlist and it will take a fee between £7m and £8m to bring the 44-year-old to West London.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the release clause in his contract has increased following Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League.
