Lead coach Oliver Reiss hailed City’s collective mindset and hunger for another FA Youth Cup triumph in the wake of Thursday’s dominant 6-0 quarter-final win at West Brom.

The young Blues were in ruthless form at the Hawthorns. Finlay Gorman led the way with a hat-trick while Matty Warhurst, Stephen Mfuni and Reigan Heskey also got on the scoresheet.

Victory put the holders into Friday’s semi-final draw. And for the lead coach it was just reward for what he described as a complete performance from his side.

“I think today it fits together the performance we played, it was very good,” Reiss reflected.

“Today we took it very seriously from the beginning on, in the warm-up and the first minutes and so on.

“We could see that the team really wants to go into the semi-final. And you know, we did well, the whole game.

“They were motivated for 90 minutes, until the end to keep the clean sheet.

“It's not the most important thing of course but you could see the players who were subbed in wanted to give everything until the end. They kept going after 3-0, 4-0.

“So all in all, for 90 minutes I think it was very good from all sides.”

The result put City just two steps away from retaining the famous trophy which we lifted last May.

However, Reiss said the lure of achieving potential back-to-back FA Youth Cup wins was not at the forefront of the squad’s mindset.

“I'm not sure if they if they really have this in their in their mind, maybe the players who also played last season,” the lead coach added.

“I think for them of course to do it again is something could be something special.

“But for the others I think for them they see this more isolated in terms of we want to win this FA Youth Cup because some players were not last year involved, so for them it is not two in the row.

“So, I don't think that they have this way of thinking to maybe to achieve the special thing to win it twice in a row.

“It's more isolated in terms of we want to win. And not in terms of two in a row.

“Today when they take it, the environment gives us points on top to the players to give everything, take it serious, show everyone how good they are. When we keep doing this anything can happen with the team."
