The defeat to PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals earlier this week has once again sent the alarm bells ringing at Real Madrid.
Despite the positive signs shown under new manager Xabi Alonso, it has become clear that gaps still remain in the squad and that the some of the players need to step up in a big way.
As such, there could be more new signings and departures in the coming weeks.
The midfield department, in particular, is seen as a position needing reinforcements following Toni Kroos’ retirement last year and Luka Modric’s exit. And, Liverpool ace Alexis Mac Allister has been touted as a target.
However, according to Melchor Ruiz of COPE, Real Madrid are not prepared to spend heavily on Mac Allister, who is expected to cost at least €100 million this summer.

While it is true that the Argentine international is greatly admired at the Santiago Bernabeu, at the moment, the Merengues are not prepared to make an investment of that magnitude on his signing.
In fact, the journalist adds that Real Madrid do not intend to enter the transfer market to strengthen the midfield or any other positions currently.
Apart from the imminent signing of Alvaro Carreras, Los Blancos will not make any further signings unless a current player departs.
Nevertheless, everything depends on the conversation between Xabi Alonso and the Real Madrid leadership regarding the events at the Club World Cup. Based on that, there may be changes to the plans.
But for now, no signings will be made, including that of Mac Allister, unless there are any major departures.
