One of the main priorities for Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window of 2025 is the signing of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany sensation Florian Wirtz.
The 21-year-old versatile attacking midfielder has been on Los Blancos’ agenda for some time now and has been touted as one of the biggest objectives to strengthen the squad before next season.
With Real Madrid even having plans to hire Xabi Alonso as manager gave further strength to their chances of landing Wirtz ahead of clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
However, now, according to Florian Plettenberg, Wirtz’s transfer away from Bayer Leverkusen to either Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, or Manchester City is off the table for the summer of 2025.

Instead, the belief is now that the 21-year-old German international will sign a new contract with the Bundesliga champions, that will keep him at the BayArena until the summer of 2028.
While the deal has not yet been signed, Leverkusen have been in talks with Wirtz’s family about an extension for quite some time already.
The youngster’s current contract with Die Werkself runs until 2027 and if everything goes according to plan, he will extend it by another year.
As such, Wirtz is expected to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season at the very least and Real Madrid or any of his other suitors must now wait until the summer of 2026, to try and lure him away from his boyhood club.
