While Real Madrid’s 0-4 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-final was a major blow, the return of Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal after long injury layoffs gave Los Blancos something to be optimistic about.
For Militao, it was his first appearance after eight months on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury, and despite the result, the Brazilian was glad to be back on the pitch.
Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, the Brazilian admitted that the team lacked intensity and urgency.
“We lacked a bit of everything because if we’d had more desire and strength, we could have tried to press.
“In football, not everything can be perfect, but we knew how Paris would play and that they would press us up front. We lacked a bit more desire,” he said.

Militao’s comments echoed those of his teammate Thibaut Courtois, who also described the defeat as a learning opportunity.
“We did some things well, we have to continue beyond the defeat,” Militao added. “I think we’ve shown the unity we have and the work we’re doing. It didn’t end well, but we’re working on it.”
The Brazilian played 26 minutes against PSG, completing a long journey back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damaged menisci in his right knee.
The match itself was disappointing, especially as both starting centre-backs, Raul Asencio and Antonio Rudiger, made costly errors that led to early goals in the fourth and ninth minutes.
Despite the tough result, Militao remained hopeful. “Happy to be back playing but sad about the result. We have to keep working.
“We know our spirit of unity will help us continue to experience beautiful things,” he concluded.
