Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler is showcasing his quality and potential at the biggest stage in the UEFA Euro 2024 with the Turkish national team.

The 19-year-old kicked off the competition in style by scoring a key goal for Turkey in their opening game against Georgia.

Having been surprisingly benched for the subsequent clash against Portugal, Guler returned to the lineup against Czechia and made a solid impression again, helping his team progress to the knockout rounds.

Last night, Guler’s talents were on display again as Turkey defeated Austria 2-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the European Championships.

Having played a hand in Merih Demiral’s opening goal, the Real Madrid wonderkid set up the centre-back for his second goal of the game with a perfectly delivered corner-kick that the ex-Juventus man turned into the back of the net.

By doing so, Guler became only the third teenager to both score and assist in the same edition of the Euros.

The other two players to do that are Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney – both achieving the feat in 2004.

With his goal against Georgia and assist versus Austria, Guler has now followed in the footsteps of two modern-day footballing greats.

“It was an incredible evening. We are even happier because we have made all our people happy. This was a team that put everything in to win,” said Guler after the match.

“We had a certain game plan. There was an incredible atmosphere here, they made us even stronger,” he added.
