A recent report from journalist Rodra (h/t RM4 Arab) has revealed that an agreement is already in place between Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen, allowing him to make the move to Real Madrid whenever he decides the time is right.

The understanding between the Spanish manager and the German club means that his departure would not be hindered, even if he remains under contract.

The pact between Alonso and Bayer

The journalist mentions that Alonso enjoys a strong professional relationship with Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO, Fernando Carro, and the two have reached a gentleman’s agreement regarding his future.

If the former Real Madrid midfielder wishes to return to the Spanish capital as a manager, the Bundesliga side will not stand in his way.

This arrangement ensures that even if Alonso renews his contract with Leverkusen, it would not pose an obstacle to his move to Madrid when the opportunity arises.

Alonso is ready to wait

The plan within Real Madrid’s hierarchy is clear—if the club fails to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, or the UEFA Champions League this season, Alonso would be the chosen successor to Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

Ancelotti also has a contract running until 2026, just like Alonso’s deal with Leverkusen, but his future at the Santiago Bernabeu could depend on the team’s performance in the ongoing campaign.

Despite the growing speculation about his move to Madrid, Alonso remains fully committed to his role at Leverkusen. He is reportedly comfortable with his current project in Germany and would be open to continuing for at least another season if the circumstances allow.

However, the possibility of returning to manage Real Madrid remains very much on the table, with the club keeping a close eye on his progress.

With this agreement in place, Alonso’s return to Madrid seems to be a matter of when rather than if. Should Real Madrid fall short in their title pursuits this season, the 43-year-old could find himself back at Valdebebas, this time in charge of the first team.
