Real Madrid Castilla and La Fabrica can rejoice after the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the first-team’s new manager, for he has shown to be one to lay faith in the young academy core of the club.

Gonzalo Garcia, for starters, is a prime example of how the manager trusts young players and does not hesitate to provide an opportunity, but not all players in the subsidiary team can claim to have as much as the talented forward.

Rafael Obrador, the young left-back who signed for the Castilla in 2020, is one such player who is not expected to have continuity at the club. In fact, a departure is being rumoured as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

Set to leave

Obrador arrived at Real Madrid’s academy in 2020 and moved to the Castilla team two years later.

In August last year, he left on loan for Deportivo La Coruna and returned to the club at the end of last month.

Now, the Italian journalist relays that Obrador is ‘on the verge’ of a move to Genoa and that Real Madrid are currently in talks over his transfer.

The young left-back has already chosen Genoa to be his next destination and new contacts are underway between Los Blancos and the Serie A side.

As has been the case with all youth transfers in recent times, the Merengues intend to keep future control of the player to some degree at least.

With the first team being relatively overbooked at left-back and Alvaro Carreras set to come, Obrador would naturally have no chances with the first team.

A departure, thus, is the best solution for all parties involved while Real Madrid’s ‘control’ over his future as a buyback clause or a right of first refusal will allow them to sign him back should the situation ever demand it.
