Rangers given shock Tavernier news after major injury update | OneFootball

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed the worst for Neraysho Kasanwirjo after revealing the stricken defender is out long term and will likely go under the knife in due course.

The in-form Dutch defender, impressing in recent matches and beginning to look like a first-team regular, sustained a horrible issue on international duty recently with the prognosis looking a long way from positive, and Clement has as good as confirmed the bad news today.

He said:

The on-loan Feyenoord stopper will consult with a surgeon on Friday, and scans as well as investigation will reveal the extent of his injury, and just to what extent he requires surgery and how long he will be out for.

It has not been announced yet if it is an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACLI) or not, because the surgeon hasn’t yet explored and properly investigated, but it doesn’t look good at all.

This of course has two ramifications; James Tavernier is now sure to cement his place at RB with the Dutchman out of commission for a considerable period, but equally Dujon Sterling may now play more in Tavernier’s place as well – the notion that these two will compete for that jersey. Optimistic but there you go.

It is a huge blow for Rangers to lose Kasanwirjo, he was an adaptable and flexible defender who could play anywhere along the back line, so his services will be missed.

Unfortunate that this has once again happened to a player on loan at Rangers with option/obligation to buy.
