Paris Saint-Germain’s successful Champions League round of 16 qualification against Liverpool feels like a major turning point for Les Parisiens fortunes in European competition. After knocking out the side top of the Premier League, Luis Enrique and his men are one of the favourites to go all the way this season. According to a report from L’Équipe, Les Parisiens could earn a jackpot of up to €144.5m if they win the Champions League this season – a record in UEFA competitions. This is partly due to broadcaster Canal+’s deal with French clubs on the continental scene. French football’s historic broadcaster pay €480m annually for the exclusive rights to the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League until 2027. PSG receive by far the lions share even before the start of the competition with a windfall of €63.35m. Les Parisiens then benefit from a participation bonus of €18.62m, as well as €11.07m for their record alone. After reaching the knockout play-off round, PSG had already raked in €80.91m. Since then, they have been handed a bonus for the round of 16 at €11m and then a further €12.5m for qualification to the quarter-finals.Ticket sales would be added if Les Rouges et Bleu reached the final in Munich, including eight sold-out matches at the Parc des Princes.LOSC have also benefitted from Canal+’s deal for European football, having already raked in around €78.71m after reaching the round of 16 and being knocked out last night by German giants Borussia Dortmund.
