Juan Cuadrado says that he joined Inter Milan “to stay at the top level” and that some Juventus fans booed him after the move.
The Colombian, now at Pisa, recalled the move in an interview in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Juan Cuadrado joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.
It would be an understatement to say that it was a surprise transfer. Cuadrado had spent the better part of a decade playing for the Nerazzurri’s bitter Derby d’Italia rivals Juventus.
However, in 2023, the Bianconeri decided not to extend Cuadrado’s contract.
And this gave Inter the opportunity to snap the former Fiorentina and Chelsea wingback up on a free transfer.
In the end, Cuadrado’s time at Inter was relatively inauspicious. He made just once start for Inter – against Real Sociedad in the Champions League – before undergoing surgery in December.
Then, Cuadrado joined Atalanta on another free transfer last season.
This summer, the 37-year-old has joined his fourth club in four seasons. He has made the switch to newly-promoted Pisa.

Cuadrado commented that Juventus are still “the team of my heart.”
“I won so much in Turin,” said the Colombian. “My children were born there.”
Cuadrado then recalled that “some of the fans booed me for joining Inter.”
“But I wanted to, and could have, stayed. Suddenly the club announced on social media that they weren’t going to extend my contract.”
“I was disappointed,” said the Colombian. “They could have called me to tell me.”
“But the fans understand and love me,” Cuadrado added. “And when I go to visit her, the Juventus fans always give me a warm welcome.”
He noted that “I wanted to stay at the highest level, but I didn’t play much due to injury.”
