Nottingham Forest 1 Newcastle 3 – Sunday 10 November 2pm
Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
‘A first half where we had complete control but were victims of some of the poorest officiating I’ve seen this season.
Forest’s goal came from a free kick which was earned off the back of a corner that should have been our goal kick.
The tackle on Willock that was briefly reviewed by VAR went right through him. Anywhere else on the pitch that’s a foul.
I counted up about four bookable offences for Yates before he was finally cautioned.
A storming second half saw the deserved three points heading back to the North East.
Isak netted in his fourth game running to level.
Joelinton’s struck a glorious winner before striking a perfect Christ The Redeemer pose.
Barnes off the bench seems to score more often than he doesn’t and did so again to give us our biggest win of the season.’
Nat Seaton:
‘What a performance, what a win!
A great way to go into the international break.
This was a team third in the league and we are now only 1 point behind them. First time they’ve conceded three and it could have been more.
We’re looking more and more like the team we all know is in there, well done lads.
Happy times are here again, pity we have to wait so long for the next game!’
Bazoox:
‘Played well for the first 20 minutes and got totally suckered with a well worked free kick.
We were the better team but it was Forest who held the advantage at the break.
I told the lads in the Club that we were like toothless tigers.
Second half was a United master class.
Best team by a mile and Big Joe and the Barnestormer scored two belters.
Momentum restored after Arsenal were defeated at Gallowgate.
Continuity was the key and getting a result going into the international break was essential.
Plenty man of the matches.
Joelinton was immense and Hall just keeps getting better.
Great cameo by our Italian Stallion.
Eddie and the Hotrods are revving up.’
The Armchair Fan:
‘So happy with that!
An amazing second half and our best performance and result of the season.
Even my Prediction of 3-1 was correct!
A brilliant day and that’s now three fantastic results in a row. Happy days!’
David Punton:
‘Stunning goals, stunning win.
Thoroughly deserved that today. Better side by a long way.
They led against the run of play so it was fitting that we were able to roar back to kill them off.
Bossed it in midfield and in attack. They’ve been in great form too, so it’s huge credit to Howe for finding a through them.
That could be one of the best goals Joelinton has scored for us. Huge moment.
Number three was the icing on the cake and their keeper won’t want to see that back, being beaten at his near post.
A small bit of revenge for the beating they gave us on Boxing Day.
We are looking right up that table now. Happy days.’
Tony Mallabar:
‘In the modern football, every club employs streams of analysts, defence and attacking coaches all aimed at giving their teams, what’s called the smallest margins.
Today was that day for us.
First half I had to chuck some kid out of my seat who quite frankly looked like an extra from homes under the hammer, result 0-1 down at ht.
Recently my match going mate was diagnosed pre diabetic but after being a good lad got the all clear, so when I come back from ht snack bar with a snickers the mood around the team changed with him munching his new treat, firstly when we equalised and giving us the karma to storm to a cracking 3-1. Victory.
So now it’s a ht snickers/marathon for Phil T from now on.’
GToon:
‘Let me calm myself down and type something that isn’t just full of expletives!
What a performance from the lads.
We were a million miles better than forest in every department.
Our boys are starting to click into gear now and it’s great to see them playing with confidence again, especially when we went 1 down.
Credit to Pope for catching the crosses and taking the wind out of their sails and to BDB for being the rock we needed today.
All the lads put a shift in today and it showed.
At one stage I was worried Yates was going to be allowed to kick everything that moved but when we upped the intensity he got left behind.
Having moved to Nottingham in 1979 today’s result was extra special for me.’
Matt Busby said to…:
‘Tremendous. The way everyone is coalescing around the 18 point mark made this a must win.
We have a very good run of matches after the international break so need to capitalise.’
Jamie Smith:
‘Magnificent stuff, I was fuming at half time after a string of bad decisions saw us behind.
Yates should have had 2 reds, they scored from a corner that was a goal kick and it was a pen on Willock.
Extremely satisfying to come from behind to win for the third year straight on this ground.
Forest seem to have decent home form but that’s four wins here straight since last March if you include the cup victory on penalties.
The most important thing is that Newcastle seem back and firing with some very winnable games ahead.
Hopefully Gordon is just a dead leg (take the international break off to recover) and the returns of Wilson and Trippier should give us some options going into these.
One point off the CL places and this season has clicked into gear.
Now let’s stop it all for the tiresome Nations League, brilliant…’
Mark Jankowski:
‘A game Newcastle controlled from start to finish.
Despite going behind in a disappointing fashion at a set piece, Newcastle didn’t panic and stuck to their game plan.
The quality that deserted our final ball in the first half was very much present in the second.
As a result, our quality shone through and a much deserved 3 points followed the lads back to Tyneside!
Roll on West Ham after the international break!’
