With TyC Sports reporting that River Plate are looking to significantly strengthen the quality of their first team, especially with the 2025 Club World Cup in mind.

River Plate qualified earlier this year for next summer’s enlarged FIFA Club World Cup.

TyC Sports report the fact that Miguel Almiron is a fan of the club and even has a River Plate tattoo.

The Newcastle United player has Argentine family on his dad’s side, hence the reason he supports River Plate.

The Argentine media outlet reporting as well, these past quotes from Miguel Almiron about his love of River Plate:

“When I was a kid I watched all the [River Plate] games.

“I was a big fan because my father’s family is Argentine.

“Whenever I can and when the schedule allows it, I watch the games with my family.

“I always wanted to play for River.

“It is one of my greatest dreams.”

Miguel Almiron is no longer a first eleven choice at Newcastle United and during the last two transfer windows it was heavily rumoured that he could move to a club in the Saudi Pro League, as well as claims a return to play in the United States was on the cards.

If receiving an acceptable offer, it looks for sure that Newcastle United would sell.

Another part of the equation is a club coming in for him, that Miguel Almiron would like to join.

Since starting in the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea in March 2023, Miguel Almiron has only started one other Premier League match, which was the 2-1 loss to… Chelsea in October.

Miggy will turn 30 in February and as things stand, has just under 20 months left on his Newcastle United contract, which is up to the end of June 2026.

It will always be tricky for clubs in South America when it comes to the financial side of things, in terms of transfer fees and wages if trying to sign players from the Premier League.

Exactly what Newcastle United would accept for Miguel Almiron is an unknown, but looking at the stats, it appears that the record transfer River Plate have paid previously, is around the £10m mark.
