Newcastle United have re-established their identity in the Premier League over the past few years. Under the coaching of Eddie Howe, the club have gradually have made their place within the elites. The Magpies will be playing in the UEFA Champions League yet again, but injuries and limited squad depth troubled them in the past season. Sean Longstaff’s departure and Joe Willock’s fitness problem weakened the midfield ahead of the next season. Now the new season is near and Newcastle United want to stand up again.
The next goal for the team is to strengthen the midfield. Eddie Howe needs a player who brings stability to the centre, controls the ball well and contributes to offensive movement. Many names are being discussed, but some players are particularly high in the eyes of Eddie Howe. There are already names like Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton in the team, but there is a need for more stability and variety with them.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are now trying to sign Aston Villa captain John McGinn. Eddie Howe wants to bring this experienced Scottish midfielder to his team because he considers him a reliable and match-changing player. McGinn is currently at Villa Park with two more years left on his contract, but other clubs are curious about his situation.
John McGinn previously made his mark playing for Hibernian FC. He joined Aston Villa in 2018, and since then, he has become an important player for the club. Whether in centre mid or on the wing, McGinn proves useful everywhere. He has experience, captaincy skills and a habit of putting up clutch performances in the Premier League. Newcastle United are looking for a player who can provide depth and leadership.
McGinn’s arrival could strengthen Newcastle’s midfield. He has a relentless reservoir of energy, the ability to control the tempo of the game and can work relentlessly for 90 minutes. The Aston Villa player maintains balance in his offensive and defensive movements. Players like these are a coach’s dream – neither technically weak nor mentally weak. Villa have performed well under his captaincy, and a team like Newcastle United need such an experienced mind now.
If the Magpies can sign him, it will be a smart decision. His presence will give balance to the team and also reduce the pressure on players like Guimarães. McGinn fits the Premier League’s intense gameplay, but it won’t be an easy deal, as Aston Villa will not want to let him go. However, if the player himself wants to move on, the door could open. Newcastle United should not miss this opportunity.
