FC Nantes have been pushing for weeks but they look to have finally landed their man. USL Dunkerque’s Luís Castro looks set to replace Antoine Kombouaré in the dugout at the Beaujoire, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Kombouaré, despite keeping Nantes in Ligue 1, was relieved of his duties upon the conclusion of the domestic campaign. Castro was one of the names on the shortlist to replace him, as well as former Olympique Lyonnais manager Pierre Sage, who has since taken over from Will Still at RC Lens.
However, freeing Castro from Dunkerque proved difficult. Initially, the Ligue 2 club were demanding €2m for the Portuguese manager. The amount offered by Nantes fell considerably short, with the club initially offering just €200,000.
A deal now looks to have been struck, L’Équipe reports. The final figure, the publication understands, is around €750,000, however, a part of that fee is variable.
