Monaco target Djordje Petrović left out of Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad | OneFootball

Djordje Petrović (25) will be a surprise absentee from Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup squad, according to The Daily Telegraph. It had previously been widely reported that the Serbian would be trialled by Enzo Maresca this summer.

Petrović is coming off the back of a strong loan spell at partner club RC Strasbourg Alsace. His performances in France, it was thought, would be a springboard for him to return to Chelsea and compete for the No.1 jersey. In his absence last season, neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen overly convinced.

However, Chelsea’s failed pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was a sign that the club were looking to recruit in this position after all. The upcoming decision to omit Petrović from the Club World Cup squad is a signal that he is not part of the project at Stamford Bridge.

AS Monaco, in the market for a centre-back, have the former Strasbourg loanee on their shortlist of potential targets.
