Liverpool’s forward line is set for a summer of change, with potential exits on the horizon as Arne Slot prepares for his first season in charge. Speaking on The Transfer Show for Anfield Index, Dave Davis provided a deep dive into the likely departures and the key decisions facing the club. From Darwin Núñez to Luis Díaz, there are big questions to be answered.
Darwin Núñez’s future has been the subject of intense speculation, with Saudi Arabian clubs heavily linked to the Uruguayan striker. Davis was clear on what he expects: “I fully expect Darwin Núñez to depart this summer. I fully expect it to be to a Saudi club.”
Núñez has struggled for consistency in front of goal, and his recent form has been underwhelming. Davis pointed out, “Four goals in 22 Premier League appearances… take away the Brentford double, and the goals have dried up.”
Liverpool reportedly rejected a January move for Núñez due to a lack of time to find a replacement, but with the summer offering more flexibility, his departure seems increasingly likely.

Luis Díaz has been a key part of Liverpool’s attack, but his long-term future remains uncertain. Davis suggested that Díaz could be one of the players to make way: “I’m expecting Luis Díaz to leave this summer… He’s 28 years old, he’s got two years left on his deal.”
Davis noted Díaz’s inconsistency, particularly in the second half of the season: “His last 11 Premier League games? Two goals and one assist.” While Díaz remains a fan favourite, his failure to secure a contract extension could indicate that Liverpool are open to offers.
Jota’s Liverpool career has been hindered by persistent injuries, and his future could be in doubt if a significant offer arrives. Davis drew comparisons with a former Liverpool striker: “I honestly think Liverpool will see Diogo Jota a little bit like Daniel Sturridge… If you could get him on the pitch for 30 games a season, you know the return you’d get.”
Jota’s availability remains a major concern, and Davis speculated that Liverpool may let him run his contract down rather than actively seek a sale. However, he also noted, “If someone slaps £50 million plus on the table for Diogo Jota, there’s a serious conversation to be had.”

Unlike some of his attacking teammates, Cody Gakpo appears secure in Liverpool’s plans. His form has improved over the course of the season, and Davis made it clear: “There’s no way Cody Gakpo is going anywhere this summer at all.”
Gakpo has provided versatility across the front three, and his ability to play multiple roles makes him an important asset under Arne Slot.
One of the younger players who could be on his way out is Ben Doak. While highly rated, Doak faces stiff competition for minutes at Anfield. Davis explained: “The standard to be in that Liverpool forward line is insanely high… I just don’t see where he gets his minutes.”
Liverpool have reportedly set an asking price of around £30 million, and Doak’s departure could follow a similar path to Fabio Carvalho’s move away from the club.

One name that Liverpool fans don’t want to see in any transfer rumours is Mohamed Salah. Davis left no room for doubt: “We have to beg, steal, borrow… pawn a kidney if we have to, to keep the best player in the world.”
Despite past interest from Saudi clubs, Salah remains integral to Liverpool’s plans, and there is no suggestion that the club are open to letting him go.
Liverpool’s attack is likely to see significant changes, with at least two key players expected to leave. Davis summed up the situation: “I think one’s certain to leave. Two? There’s a good chance. Three? I’m struggling to see it, but who knows?”
As Liverpool look to refresh their forward options, they will likely target younger, versatile attackers who can contribute across multiple positions.
The summer transfer window will be crucial in shaping the club’s attacking future, and with Arne Slot taking the reins, big decisions lie ahead.
