Millwall have made an offer for Wolves' Luke Cundle as they look to sign the midfielder ahead of rival Championship clubs.
Millwall have made an offer to Wolves for Luke Cundle as they look to beat fellow Championship sides to the signing of the midfielder.
The 22-year-old has come through the ranks at Molineux, but he has struggled to get game time, so he has spent the past few years out on loan at Swansea, Plymouth and Stoke.
Another move was expected in the summer, but Cundle remained at Wolves, although his only minutes have come for the U23s.
Therefore, it has always seemed likely that he would depart Wanderers in the winter window, and a host of clubs have been tracking the player.
FLW exclusively revealed that Swansea and Preston were monitoring Cundle, and reports have also claimed that Bristol City and Millwall are in the mix.
And, it appears the Lions have taken the first step to try and secure Cundle’s signature, as TalkSPORT reporter Alex Cook has stated they have made an offer.
“Millwall have made a permanent offer for Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle. Believe other championship clubs are monitoring the situation.”
It’s pretty evident that Cundle needs to leave Wolves for the sake of his career, as he is not getting a look-in, and even if the Black Country outfit are relegated, they do have other midfield options ahead of him in the pecking order that are likely to stick around.
For Millwall, it’s a deal that makes sense, as Cundle will bring qualities that they sometimes lack in the middle of the park.
He is a player that can link play through the thirds, and he will bring composure and technical ability to the team.
Alex Neil is building a long-term project at The Den, and part of that will include evolving the style of play, so Cundle could become key to the team over the years, given his age.
Yet, another bonus about this potential deal is that Cundle will also be able to make an instant impact.
As outlined above, he has Championship experience, clocking up nearly 75 appearances at this level, so he will be able to slot in straight away and help Millwall as they look to pull clear of the relegation battle this season.
With Wolves unlikely to demand a big fee for Cundle, this looks like it could be a shrewd bit of business by the Londoners, although it will be interesting to see if this update sparks other clubs into action.
