Elye Wahi’s (21) opening months at Olympique de Marseille have not gone to plan. He arrived from RC Lens for a fee of around €25m and was expected to lead the line for OM this season. However, struggling for form, the Frenchman has lost his place in the starting line-up with Neal Maupay, recruited to be a back-up, the go-to No.9 for Roberto De Zerbi.
It is within this context that La Provence reported that Wahi could leave Marseille as soon as January, in the event of a satisfactory offer being received. The publication even reported that Montpellier HSC were preparing a shock move to bring the Frenchman back to the club on loan.
However, whilst L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi alludes to interest from several clubs, he understands that Wahi has no intention of leaving Les Phocéens this January. Instead, he wishes to remain at the Vélodrome and succeed in establishing himself at the club.
