Manchester United XI vs Newcastle – Predicted lineup and team news

Manchester United make the trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim’s side were left disappointed after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser on Thursday night. Two errors from Andre Onana undid a strong performance at Lyon, as the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final ended in a 2-2 draw.

This weekend’s clash with Newcastle is sandwiched between the two legs and Europe must be the priority for the Red Devils across the run-in. However, Amorim will want to build on the momentum of two solid – if unspectacular – performances against Lyon and Manchester City of late.

Newcastle have their sights set on Champions League qualification. Fifth in the table heading into the weekend, the news that the Premier League will be allocated an additional co-efficient berth has boosted their hopes of a return to Europe’s elite.

Ruben Amorim could make several changes with one eye on Thursday’s second leg with Lyon.

Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo have recently returned from lengthy lay-offs and could feature, while the likes of Mason Mount and Victor Lindelof could be handed rare starts.

Amorim reiterated his confidence in Andre Onana despite two glaring mistakes in midweek, though Altay Bayindir is an option to take the Cameroonian out of the spotlight at St James’ Park. The Turkey international is yet to make his Premier League debut for the club.

Matthijs de Ligt remains a doubt after missing the last three games, while Lisandro Marinez, Amad Diallo, Ayden Heaven, Jonny Evans and Toby Collyer are confirmed absentees.
