Andre Onana dropped by Ruben Amorim after latest mistakes

Andre Onana has been dropped for Manchester United‘s their trip to Newcastle after his latest two errors against Lyon.

Onana was left out of the United squad that travelled to Newcastle on Saturday, and Altay Bayindir is in line to start in goal at St James’ Park.

Cameroon international Onana was at fault for both Lyon goals as United drew 2-2 in the Europa League on Thursday, and Ruben Amorim has taken him out of the firing line at the end of a week in which Nemanja Matic branded him “one of the worst keepers in United’s history”.

Amorim has not made too many changes against Newcastle, with injuries limiting the options available to him.

Harry Amass, 18, will make his full Man United debut at St James Park, coming in to replace Patrick Dorgu.

Joshua Zirkzee gets the nod over Rasmus Hojlund after the Dutch international scored in midweek, while Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo have again returned to the bench alongside Ayden Heaven, who has been injured for several weeks.

Amorim is still without Matthijs de Ligt, Amad Diallo, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez and Toby Collyer.

Bruno Fernandes has been involved for 4,078 of a possible 4,470 minutes this season and Amorim was asked this week about the prospect of giving the midfielder a rest.

But Amorim insists United still have a “great responsibility” to win games in the Premier League and said: “Of course, I'm going to be careful with some players, but we need to be competitive.

“When you are playing for Manchester United, you cannot go to the game thinking about the next one. We have to face Newcastle with a team that we can be competitive, and to win the game."

And Fernandes will not be granted that rest as he makes his 31st start of the season.

Victor Lindelof has come off the bench to replace Harry Maguire twice this week and could come in at centre-back.
