Manchester United are likely to have lined themselves up with big-money bonuses from their main sponsor should they win major honours, according to reports.

Last month it was announced that Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. triggered an extension option which will keep them as United’s principal shirt partnership until 2029.

And according to Football Insider sources, the Red Devils will have likely included clauses in this agreement for bonuses to be paid should they see success on the pitch.

These bonuses would be linked to the biggest competitions and would be in place to potentially mitigate for missing out on future, more lucrative, sponsorship deals.

With the extension in place, Qualcomm’s investment in United will total a huge £300m across the five-year period.

When United first inked the deal with the American technology firm last year it was widely reported that the annual £60m sponsorship was not contingent on Champions League qualification.

So much the better, as Erik ten Hag’s men crashed to a worst-ever Premier League finish, winding up in eighth place.

The Reds only just dragged themselves into any overseas football at all, securing a spot in the Europa League thanks to an unexpected FA Cup triumph over rivals Manchester City.

Should they upset the odds and secure significant silverware this season, Qualcomm may be obliged to shell out a hefty bonus payment.

The Reds take to the pitch to try and do just that with Snapdragon, a subsidiary of Qualcomm, as their new front-of-shirt sponsor.

Snapdragon produces processors which can be found in over three billion devices across the globe, and the United shirts bearing its logo have sold like hotcakes.

Fans have been quick to praise all three kits produced for the club this season by Adidas, who themselves signed a 10-year deal last year worth £900m over the next decade.
