Lyon close to €17m agreement with Liverpool over Tyler Morton | OneFootball

Lyon are close to reaching a €17m agreement with Liverpool over a deal to sign defensive midfielder Tyler Morton (22), according to The Times’ Paul Joyce. Les Gones have previously made contact with the Premier League champions as they hold an interest in Morton, who has entered his final contract year with the Reds. Liverpool – Morton’s formative club – would be open to parting ways with their midfielder on a permanent basis. Fabrizio Romano adds that negotiations are at a final stage between Liverpool and Lyon.

Morton was part of the England U21 squad that took home the U21 Euros title this summer. Lyon are in the market for a midfielder. Les Gones have sold Jordan Veretout to Al-Arabi as well as Jordan Lepenant to FC Nantes. The France U21 international midfielder was already loaned out to Les Canaris last season. Paulo Fonseca also needs to rejuvenate his midfield options, given Nemanja Matic (36) has entered his final contract year and that Corentin Tolisso will turn 31 in a couple of days.
