Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton (22) would be keen to pursue his career in Lyon, according to a report this Tuesday from The Athletic. Les Gones have made contact with the Premier League champions as they hold an interest in Morton, who has entered his final contract year with the Reds. Liverpool – Morton’s formative club – would be open to parting ways with their midfielder on a permanent basis. The 22-year-old was part of the England U21 squad that took home the U21 Euros title this summer.
With the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are well-stocked in the midfield department. The same can’t be said for Lyon. Les Gones have sold Jordan Veretout to Al-Arabi as well as Jordan Lepenant to FC Nantes. Paulo Fonseca also needs to rejuvenate his midfield options, given Nemanja Matic (36) has entered his final contract year and that Corentin Tolisso will turn 31 in a couple of days. The 2018 World Cup winner was also of interest to Manchester United.
The Athletic adds that Morton would welcome a move to Lyon as it would offer him a chance to progress in his career. Meanwhile, The Times adds that Lyon have submitted an opening bid below Liverpool’s valuation of Morton, which would be above £10m.
