It was reported on Wednesday by This Is Anfield that Diaz was in line for a new contract after his impressive start to the season.

The Colombian has started all three league games under Arne Slot, finding the back of the net three times and also providing one assist, meaning he is quickly asserting himself as one of the new manager's most important players.

Diaz has already broken records this season and, after a summer full of interest from abroad, it is easy to see why some Liverpool supporters may want the 27-year-old tied down with a new contract.

It has now been reported by Paul Gorst, of the Liverpool ECHO, that claims that a new contract for Diaz is imminent are “wide of the mark”.

Liverpool could still secure a long-term midfield target despite the closure of the transfer window. However time is running out.

Its been no secret that Arne Slot had been looking to bolster his midfield this summer, losing out on Martin Zubimendi who opted to stay at boyhood club Real Sociedad.

Adrien Rabiot has been a free agent since his contract with Juventus expired at the start of July after he refused to sign a new deal. Subsequently the player has been left out of the French National Team for their UEFA Nations League fixtures.

L'Equipe linked the 29-year-old with a potential move to Liverpool, while Manchester United, a long-time admirer, reportedly backed away from their interest.

Martin Zubimendi was Liverpool’s number one target for the midfield in the summer transfer window, but the 25-year-old decided to stay in Spain.

The Real Sociedad and Spain star impressed for his nation in the final of the Euros against England after replacing Rodri at half-time, and was reportedly on his way to Liverpool until he changed his mind.

Zubimendi played 45 times for Real Sociedad last season and has featured in their opening four La Liga matches this campaign. He was revealed as Liverpool’s top midfield target, but the Reds were not able to get a deal over the line.

Zubimendi decided to stay at Real Sociedad, the club's he's represented since he was 11, and the Spaniard doesn’t appear to regret his decision.

“Real Sociedad for me is my life, I think I have spent half my life there,” he revealed to MARCA (as translated by Sport Witness). “A lot of what I am is part of La Real, it is my life.”

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed an electrifying start to the season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in Liverpool’s first three games, but the Egyptian King has less than a year left on his contract.

After another stunning performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford, in which Salah was involved in all three goals, the 32-year-old revealed that he hadn’t had any contact with the club over a new deal.

As well as Salah, Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of this season, and Arne Slot has been very reserved with what he’s willing to share about the trio’s contract situations.

Salah has faced some backlash for his comments after the Old Trafford victory but he has not let his contract situation affect his on-pitch performance and he has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

It has now been revealed by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel that Liverpool will begin contract negotiations with Salah over the next few days and that the forward is “very keen” on signing a new deal and is “very happy” with new boss Slot.
