Neither Liverpool nor Everton could find a goal in the Merseyside derby, but still put in an historic performance.

In the final game of their pre-season campaign, Liverpool Women were held to a scoreless draw by the Toffees, with goalkeeper Rachael Laws producing an excellent save to deny Karoline Olesen in the game's best chance.

The match was the first time the Liverpool Women wore the team's third kit, but it was also memorable for another reason.

The 0-0 draw was the first time the Reds had played at St Helen's Stadium and although they could not get a win, it was a strong performance the club's new home ground.

Liverpool will kick off their 2024-25 Women's Super League campaign at the same venue next Sunday when they host Leicester.

The venue, which is the home of St Helen's Rugby League teams, will be Liverpool Women's home for the next 10 years after a lengthy agreement was reached between the teams.

As the rugby league season runs from February to September, Liverpool Women will be the stadium's main occupants for half the year, hoping to build on their impressive finish of fourth last season in the WSL.

Known as the Totally Wicked Stadium for sponsorship reasons, LFC do not look to have taken to using that name in official correspondence and are preferring to use the standard name instead.

Liverpool Women's new signings

Leanne Kiernan impressed off the bench for Liverpool as head coach Matt Beard assessed his squad ahead of thew new WSL season.

Kiernan could be a key figure for Beard this season, having just extended her contract at Liverpool, alongside Ireland international team-mate Niamh Fahey.

The Reds did not have a busy transfer window this summer, but made some signings in key areas, like defender Gemma Evans who arrived from Manchester United and Swedish forward Cornelia Kapocs.

Canadian midfielder Olivia Smith will be another newcomer to keep an eye on as she has already won 10 caps for her country, scoring twice at age 20 and arrives on Merseyside from Portuguese side Sporting CP where she scored 13 times in 18 league appearances last season and was voted the league's player of the year.
