The summer transfer window is never short of drama, and Luis Díaz has provided plenty. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Díaz has “made it clear again… that he is open to leaving Liverpool FC should a really exciting offer come.” This revelation has added fuel to a transfer saga already simmering for weeks.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been heavily linked with the Colombian winger, especially after Nico Williams chose to stay at Athletic Bilbao. Bayern’s Max Eberl has reportedly “held talks with the management of Diaz in the past few days,” according to Plettenberg. However, no formal offers have been tabled yet, and Liverpool have so far “blocked everything.”
BILD reports suggest that Bayern are only willing to go as high as €60 million plus bonuses. Given Díaz’s 17 goals and eight assists last season, and with two years left on his contract, it is unsurprising that Liverpool are holding firm. The club are under no obligation to sell, particularly after lifting the Premier League title under Arne Slot in his debut season.
Another layer to this story is Liverpool’s silence on a new deal. With no contract extension in sight, reports from Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra suggest Díaz may issue an ultimatum: offer a new deal or allow a summer departure.
It is important to note that Plettenberg has since clarified on X that Díaz has not submitted a formal transfer request but has simply expressed his openness to a move. The nuance matters because it shapes how Liverpool will play their hand. For now, the club’s stance remains that Díaz is not for sale.

Luis Díaz is 28, entering what many see as his peak years. Selling him now would weaken a squad looking to build on the success of Slot’s impressive debut season. On top of that, with no clear replacement lined up, letting him go this late in the window would be risky.
Liverpool’s transfer team will also be aware of market dynamics. Bayern’s €60 million valuation feels modest in today’s climate, particularly for a Premier League title winner and Champions League regular. It is no wonder they have “blocked everything so far.”
All eyes will now be on whether Bayern or Barcelona are prepared to increase their offers. Equally, Liverpool must decide if they want to secure Díaz’s long-term future or risk ongoing uncertainty unsettling the dressing room.
As one source put it: “It’s complicated, but the Bavarians are still trying but are also checking other options.” For Liverpool, holding their ground might be their strongest move yet.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, this news is gutting. Luis Díaz has been one of the most electrifying players at Anfield in recent years, a game-changer in tight matches and someone who embodies the fighting spirit of the club.
The thought of him leaving, especially after winning the Premier League under Arne Slot, feels like a blow to the project the club has been building. It raises big questions: why has the club not moved faster to tie him down to a new deal? Are we about to repeat the mistakes of the past by letting a key player’s contract situation drag out?
Fans would also rightly wonder if €60 million plus bonuses is anywhere near enough for a player of Díaz’s calibre. In this market, where lesser talents are going for more, that fee feels like an insult.
There is also the concern of what message this sends to the rest of the squad. If you can have a title-winning season and still find your future uncertain, what does that say about Liverpool’s ambition? Díaz has given everything in a red shirt, and fans will hope the club gives him the respect and commitment he deserves.
