Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation for this summer remains very uncertain, despite a lot of briefs and rumours.

The Blues have a few options on the books, but can’t be too happy with any of them.

Robert Sanchez has been dropped for the second season in a row at the club, and cost us crucial points which could prove fatal in our pursuit of a Champions League place. Filip Jorgensen looked shaky filling in for him, and Mike Penders, while promising, is still 19. Djordje Petrovic is having a superb season on loan in Ligue 1, but was shipped out last summer by these sporting directors, who evidently didn’t rate him too highly.

So despite claims we’re happy with what we’ve got already on the books, it’s no surprise to see us linked to other options, and it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see us buy them.

The latest name to come up is Yahia Fofana, the Angers goalkeeper who is doing almost as well statistically as Petrovic.

According to CaughtOffside we’re very much in the race – and have a personal recommendation from a very significant Blues figure to count on.

They say that club legend Didier Drogba has recommended that we sign Fofana this summer after seeing the impressive 24 year old in action.

Young, cheap, talented goalkeeper could work perfectly for Chelsea

Angers are fighting relegation, and even if they stay up, Fofana will surely want to move on. He looks more than good enough to play for a team at a far higher level. His asking price is likely to be pretty reasonable – could we see him come to Chelsea as a bridge player until Penders is ready to step into his shoes?

It’s certainly not a move we could rule out.
